Dillard’s Buying Office Summer Internship Program

Dillard’s West Region Buying Office, located in Gilbert, Arizona, has a Summer Internship Program designed to facilitate an on-the-job learning experience for students interested in a career in Fashion buying.   The internship is a development program that provides the training, knowledge and hands-on learning experience of a professional buyer for a major department store.

Job Description

Summer interns will shadow a seasoned buyer who will work with the intern throughout the course of the program.  The intern will learn aspects of the buying process which includes open to buy, assortment planning, ordering, forecasting, advertising, and other related tasks applied to buying functions. Interns will also attend classroom instructions on various buying topics taught by buyers and Division management. 

Internship Parameters

The program will run from May 26th through Aug 1st, 2025.               Dillard’s will pay $20.00 an hour for a total of 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday.    We will have  flexibility for any student that have a later end date for the Spring semester.   

The position is considered temporary and does not have benefits  except an employee discount after 30 days of employment and eligibility. 

Academic credit is between the intern and their school.   Interns need to inquire about the possibilities of receiving academic credit through their college prior to starting the internship.  Dillard’s will participate in any support necessary for the university or college to determine eligibility of the college credits.

Qualifications

Interns must be at least in their Junior year going into their Senior year of a Bachelor’s degree college program.  Seniors qualify as well.

Students must have a minimum 3.5 overall GPA.

Other qualifications include computer, technical skills, prior retail experience, writing, math, phone skills and the ability to handle supervised direction.

Preferred degrees include Retail, Marketing,  Fashion Merchandising,  or Apparel Merchandising. The program will accept all qualified candidates, regardless of his/her major.

Students must display a desire to have a long-standing career in the retail industry as an executive in the buying organization.
