Job description

This is the most beautiful place to do an internship! 

16-acre, riparian campus, filled with lovely people, and wonderful students!

6-12+ hours weekly. This is unpaid compensation, however, this student will be referred to The UA Success Center Office who will review the candidate who may be eligible for compensation through a grant/endowment program. 

Internship Outcome:

To learn as much as possible in a real life school setting (Preschool - 8th Grade). Whether it is assisting our administration team or working in the classroom with students directly, interns at Hermosa gain real world experiences in a very unique environment, one in which is beyond compare to any other organization in the world. Spring Semester 2025 (Beginning January) 

NOTE: all positions must possess Fingerprint Clearance Care issued by AZ Department of Public Safety.

-Administration Intern: 

This position assists in matters that are vital to the school's operation such as: Enrollment Marketing, Event Coordination, Human Resources, Student Testing, State Testing, Data Entry, Material Creation, Communications, & Program Support. The biggest result for an Administration Intern is for that student to leave having a solid understanding of the business behind the scenes of charter education in Arizona. 

-Primary Intern:

This position assists in the Primary classroom (ages 3-6). This is a prime internship position for any one wanting to work with early childhood students, or even become a teacher. There are lots of opportunities within this position to work directly with children. Interns support the lead teacher in making material for the classroom, classroom management, and engage with children anywhere from a 1:1 scenario all the way to a group setting. If you enjoy working with little ones, this is a terrific opportunity.

-Elementary Intern:

This position assists in the Elementary classroom (ages 6-12). This is a prime internship position for any one wanting to work with students who are a little bit older. There are lots of opportunities in this position to work directly with children. They support the lead teacher in material making for the classroom, classroom management, and engage with children anywhere from a 1:1 scenario all the way to a group setting. The main outcome of this internship is to learn the materials of Montessori education and implement them in a classroom setting. In this experience, the intern works directly with a lead teacher or team, to carry out instruction to students. Interns in this position are often AMAZED at the effectiveness of Montessori materials on the development of children. 

-Middle School Intern:

This position assists in the Middle School classroom (ages 12-14). This is a great internship opportunity for any one wanting to work adolescents and teenagers. The intern will support the lead teacher in material making for the classroom, classroom management, and engage with children anywhere from a 1:1 scenario all the way to a group setting. They will also be assisting in community led activities. The intern works directly under the Middle School team of teachers. Community is very important at this age. This is a fantastic experience for those who wish to make an impact on the teenager youth. 

-Art Class Intern:

This position assists the art teacher in preparing art lessons for Elementary and Middle School students (ages 6-14). This is a wonderful internship position for any one wanting to get involved in art education. There are lots of opportunities in this position to work directly with children. They support the art teacher in preparing material for the classroom, classroom management, and in engaging with the children anywhere from a 1:1 scenario all the way to a group setting. If you enjoy working with art and making an impact on the community, this is for you.

-Math Intern:

Math Interns will be interacting with 7th and 8th graders and grading math anywhere from 6th grade level up to Geometry. Special math activities will be occurring at least once a week, with varying grade levels anywhere from 1st-8th. 

Students of all majors are welcome, though we would really like to work with students who have strong math skills. 

-E.S.S. (Exceptional Student Services) Intern

The intern will be introduced to the real-life applications of developmental psychology as it relates to special education through the perspective of a public charter school. The intern will also obtain knowledge and skills from a variety of special educators in the areas of evidence-based intervention, data analysis, and the composition of evaluation reports and educational plans.

E.S.S. Interns will:

  • Understand and Navigate Special Education Policies. 
  • Acquire a comprehensive understanding of special education policies and learn to navigate through federal, state, charter, and school-specific regulations.
  • Analyze and Distinguish Developmental and Academic Benchmarks.
  • Develop the ability to analyze and distinguish between typical and atypical
    social, emotional, cognitive, and academic development within the educational setting.
  • Develop the ability to analyze and distinguish between typical and atypical
    social, emotional, cognitive, and academic development within the educational setting.
  • Gain the skill of interpreting and applying the results of psycho-educational
    assessments in the areas of academics & cognitive development.
  • Cultivate a Holistic, Inclusive, and Trauma-Informed Educational Perspective.
  • Develop a deep understanding of how sociocultural, socioeconomic, and racial
    factors influence school culture, community engagement, and learning experiences.

Summer Semester 2025 

-Hermosa Summer School Intern:

Some students at Hermosa Montessori School require continued services to be provided throughout the course of the summer. Summer interns will carry out similar responsibilities as E.S.S. interns, except these responsibilities will be carried out over summer school months, June, July, & parts of August.
